Towing Tech Tips - Tow Hooks

I’m sure you guys are tired of being bragging about my cool tow hooks, but I thought that might come in handy to the team!

As you all know – there are oval shaped holes (with a doubler behind them) in the front of the frame, near the sway bar perches.

They are designed to accept this type of tow hook, which gives you a very good metal ring to attach your tie down strap to.

I believe they were originally intended for moving the cars down the production line.

Thanks, never can tell when these will come in handy in a trip to California or any other state.

APRIL'S "FROM THE RIGHT SEAT"

My Filing System Improved Nighttime Driving Visibility.

I did not start out thinking that I need to change my head lights.  Far from it.  I was adding several more articles to my technical reference binder when the binder opened to a random page, and I read the article.  Let me explain about my reference binders.

When I first joined POCA back in 2002 I looked forwarded (and still do) to receiving the monthly newsletter edited by Jack DeRyke.  I kept all the issues with the thought that I could reference the technical articles they are very interesting and informative.  Soon I had a stack of newsletters piled up in the corner of my basement with no practical way to search for a specific topic.  A filing change was needed.

FIAMM Horn Repair

Theory and Repair of Pantera FIAMM Horns

-          Chuck Huber (Pantera Owner’s Club of Arizona)

I received a sweet, used pair of FIAMM horns, along with the stock mounting bracket, in a lot of parts I had purchased (see Figure 1).  Unfortunately – the horns wouldn’t honk - neither one of them!  So I resolved to look into this mystery…. Fast forward 4 years…  I finally got tired of seeing the horns (disassembled) sitting on my shelf.  So I decided to figure out how they worked, and to see if I could repair them.  I tried pulling up YouTube videos of “FIAMM Horn Repair”, but these searches came up empty – I guess I would have to go it alone!

Five Quick and Easy Mods to Do to Your Pantera

-          Chuck Huber (Pantera Owner’s Club of Arizona)

The following modifications are intended to provide the owner lasting value.  These mods should result in either an immediate, or future reduction in labor, or perhaps an increase in convenience or situational awareness in the condition of your car.  So without ado….

1)      An Old Racer’s Trick – Petcocks in the Block:   When you need to pull your heads off, or drain your coolant, having a pair of petcocks in the block will give you a simple way to drain the coolant level to below the height of the head coolant passages.  Both sides of the 351C block have ports into the water jacket.  Typically, these are sealed with small, square-headed threaded pipe plugs.  Replacement of these plugs with a pair of appropriately fitting petcocks can save you a lot of energy and trouble if you need to reduce…

Hi Frank – I don’t exactly know because I got the caps from Rick P down there in Green Valley.

But if he found a set, they should be very inexpensive, because there’s not much to them.

Give them a try and report back!

Brighten Those Door Marker Lights!!!

Go to eBay… buy a pack of 1156 LED lights.

Remove the two screws holding the marker light sockets to the back of your Cat’s door. Slide back the boot and replace the incandescent bulbs with LEDs.

Voila!

Your door marker lights will be at least twice as bright!!!

Here’s some pictures, although you probably don’t need them!
